Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise released a comment Wednesday night confirming they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and had been in communication with the league office.
The team did not mention Rice specifically in their statement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention the athlete by name, posted a set of images on social media that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.
Police Reports Currently Unavailable
No official complaints were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice's Prior Legal Issues
Rice was absent for the first six games of this season due to an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left several individuals injured. Rice was given a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.
Statistically, he concluded the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
